From the Office
Dear Parents,
IHM School starts next Wednesday, August 30th! All of the teachers and staff have been working hard the last few weeks in preparation of the start of the school year next week! We are all looking forward to having our wonderful students back in the building for another year of growth in learning, faith, and fun!
New hires: I am happy to say that we have hired Mary Spyrow as our new 4th grade teacher! Mrs. Spyrow has 10 years of teaching experience in Chicago and Davenport and we are thrilled to have her join our community! We have also hired Elizabeth Hoelter, whom you may know as a very involved IHM parent, as an early childhood special education teaching assistant. I am still working on getting a few helpers in our afterschool program, but in the meantime we have substitute teachers who have worked in our building filling in until I can hire someone.
The restrooms on the elementary end of the building are renovated and will be ready to go for the Open House!
There are some good things to know at the beginning of the school year – please keep reading below and you may find answers to questions you were wondering about! Lunches and Menu
The link to the menu for August and September is below. There is also a salad bar available every day!
Our amazing chef, Mrs. Walters, is looking for several volunteers to come in and help in the kitchen on a weekly basis – one day a week from 10:45-1:00. Please email her at hwalters@ihm-school.org if you can help her out!
Drop Off – Pick Up
Please see the drop off / pick up sheet linked below for the details on where to drop your students for their first days of school!
We ask that for the first month of the school year parents not enter the building for any reason, including drop-off, even on the first day, unless they have been invited, are volunteering, or have made an appointment. Bring them up to the door, kiss and hug them and let them come in! We will take care of them from there! Thanks for helping with this!
A few IHM Parents are hosting a get-together for that first day of school dropoff! They would like to invite all IHM families to stop by the church parking lot from 7:45-8:15 AM on the first day, August 30th, AFTER you drop off your students, to chat, cry or drink a cup of coffee! They will have coffee and pastries available. We hope everyone is able to stop for a few minutes to kick off another great school year at IHM. A flyer is linked below.
Bus
If your child is riding the bus to or from IHM school, please email tom.kuntzsch@nelsonsbusservice.com with the best parent contact cell phone number and email, so he can send you the information about the new school bus tracking app, StopFinder, that Nelsons Bus will be using!
As of right now, there will be no bus service on the first two days of school, Wednesday & Thursday, August 30-31st. The bus will start on Friday, September 1st. We will let you know if that changes.
We have been told that bus schedules will be coming out soon. Please be patient with the bus system the first few weeks of school. They are often running late on both ends at first, but once the kinks are ironed out all runs smoothly! If you have any questions, please call Nelson Bus at 608-221-8417, but this is their crazy busy time of year, so please be patient!
Back to School Night
The ECE (3K, 4K, 4K Wraparound) has a parent-only orientation in their rooms today, Wednesday, August 23rd from 5:30-6:00 PM.
Back to School Night is next Monday, August 28th from 4-6 PM! The flyer is linked below – all levels are welcome (including ECE!), parents and kids! Come for a few minutes to drop off school supplies and say “Hi!” Middle School orientation for 6th graders and new 7th and 8th graders is in Mrs. Derk’s room at 5:30.
Back to School Night is just a quick check in! If you have more questions or concerns that will take more than a minute, please email your child’s teacher (teacher emails are available in the directory on your FACTs Family Portal.) We can’t wait to see you there! If you can’t make it, don’t stress, just send supplies with kids on their first day.
